Cosmetic and restorative dental work can be a significant investment, and most people want to ensure they’ll get value for money before committing. No one wants to spend time and money on work only to be back in the chair a couple of years later. So, how long do veneers, crowns and implants last?
The answer depends on your mouth and the work being done. No two mouths are the same, so treat the numbers below as realistic averages, not guarantees. The material, the tooth or gum beneath, and your daily habits all shape the result. Here is what to expect, and what separates the low end of each range from the high end.

ToggleHow Long Do Veneers Last?
Lifespan depends heavily on the material, so it helps to look at each type separately. How long do composite veneers last? Usually five to seven years. They are affordable and quick to apply, but the resin is softer and chips or stains more easily, putting them at the lower end of the scale.
Porcelain veneers are tougher. How long do porcelain veneers last? Typically ten to fifteen years, and often longer with good care, because porcelain resists stains and holds its colour. Either way, daily habits like grinding and keeping up with check-ups push the result toward the higher or lower end.
How Long Do Crowns Last?
Most crowns last 10 to 15 years, though many last much longer. In practice, lifespan comes down to the tooth underneath. Crowns made from porcelain fused to metal or full ceramic are durable, but if decay forms at the edge or the supporting tooth weakens, replacement comes sooner. Full-ceramic and zirconia crowns tend to last longest, while older metal-based crowns may show wear sooner. Back teeth also take more chewing force, so they wear faster than crowns on front teeth.
How Long Do Dental Implants Last?
Implants are the longest-lasting option. The titanium post can last a lifetime once it fuses with the bone. That lifespan assumes healthy gums and bone to anchor it, which is why aftercare matters as much as the surgery itself. The crown on top is the part that ages, often needing replacement after 10 to 15 years. Gum health and bone density matter most, and smoking, gum disease, and poor cleaning are the main reasons implants fail early.
What Determines Longevity
Across all three, the same factors decide whether you land at the low or high end of the range:
- Daily brushing and flossing
- Regular dental check-ups
- Wearing a night guard if you grind
- Not using your teeth as tools
- A balanced diet and healthy gums
None of these are dramatic, but together they often add years to any restoration.
Extend the Life of Your Dental Work With Healthy Habits
The dentist lays the groundwork with quality materials and skilled placement, but your everyday habits write the rest of the story. Treat them well, and veneers, crowns, and implants can all reward you with years of natural-looking results. And for a realistic estimate that reflects your own mouth rather than an average, a dentist can weigh up your teeth, your bite, and your habits in person.
