Dental Implants

How long does it take to get a dental implant?

The entire process of getting a dental implant takes place over a period of several months. The implant surgery itself doesn’t take very much time, but time is needed for the implant to fully integrate into the jawbone.

Dental Implant Process in Mount Gravatt

Here’s how the process works:

  • If your dentist determines you have adequate bone density and you are free of gum disease, you can have the implants placed. It is fairly common to have the implant placed immediately after your tooth is extracted. You can ask your dentist if this will be your scenario as well.
  • Once we place the dental implant, it takes about three to six months for the implant to permanently integrate with your jawbone. This is called ‘osseointegration.’
  • After full integration occurs with the jawbone, your permanent crown will be placed onto the implant abutment.

Although the dental implant process takes place over a period of several months, your implant is designed to last for a lifetime with proper care. Dental implants are generally considered to be the gold standard when it comes to tooth replacement. With permanent dental implants, you will have no food restrictions so you can eat all of your favourites. Caring for them is easy as well; simply brush and floss as you normally would and visit your dentist twice each year for check-ups and cleans.

General Dentistry

What will happen at my first visit to HD Dental Studio?

When you first enter our Mount Gravatt, QLD dental clinic, you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly team members. We will ask that you come a few minutes early to complete your new patient paperwork while you are here. Alternatively, you can complete the paperwork ahead of time. In that case, you’ll simply check-in to reception on arrival and wait a few moments until one of our team members brings you to the treatment area. We run appointments quite promptly, so you’ll seldom have to wait for more than a moment or two.

Your First Appointment at Our Mount Gravatt Clinic

Dr Paul Trembath and Dr Daniel Hu will go over your oral health, reviewing your medical history and finding out if you have any questions or issues you would like to discuss. Then they’ll conduct a tooth-by-tooth examination to assess your teeth and gums. Also included is an examination of the soft tissues of the mouth, looking for anything that looks outside of the norm.

They may recommend x-rays to see beyond what they can see in a visual exam. An x-ray will enable them to spot issues while they are still small and easy to treat.

In most cases, you will also be scheduled for a dental clean, so we will provide a scale and polish. If, however, the dentists has detected signs of gum disease, you may be recommended to come in at a later time for a deep cleaning.

Preventive Dentistry

How can I tell if my teeth are healthy? What can I do to improve my oral hygiene?

The best way to find out if your teeth and gums are healthy is to visit your dentist every six months for check-ups and cleans. Many times people are unaware of dental issues in their earliest stages because there are no symptoms present.

Importance of Regular Dental Care

For example, a small cavity in the tooth may not even be visible to the naked eye. It probably won’t cause you any problems while it’s still small. But left untreated, a small cavity will grow into a large cavity. If you continue to put off treatment, bacteria could ultimately get inside all the way down to the tooth root. Suddenly, you wake up with an unbearable toothache and discover you need a root canal.

Gum disease is another condition that develops quietly, often with no symptoms. By the time your gums are bleeding, and pockets of pus have formed, it might be too late to spare your teeth from extraction.

We Welcome Your Call to Our Mount Gravatt Clinic

The best way to improve your oral hygiene is with routine visits to the dentist. Our dentists usually recommend coming to our Mount Gravatt, QLD dental clinic every six months, although they may suggest a different frequency based on your oral health.

It’s not uncommon for people to view routine dental visits as a ‘waste of time and money.’ After all, if you are not experiencing dental pain, why bother going to the dentist?

Benefits of Professional Dental Cleans

The reason it’s important is that preventive care is the foundation of good oral health. This means preventing problems or treating issues while they are still in their earliest stages. A tiny cavity that goes unfilled can easily turn into a decayed, infected tooth in need of a root canal. This is what can happen when people skip routine dental visits.

The cost of professional dental cleans is much less than getting a root canal—or worse, having to have a tooth extracted then replaced with a dental restoration.

Another reason to visit the dentist regularly is to keep gums healthy. Gum disease is a leading cause of tooth loss among adults. The problem is that you can’t know if your gums are healthy without seeing the dentist. Gum disease often develops without any signs or symptoms—until suddenly, gums are bleeding and receding, and the possibility of tooth loss looms in the near future. Gum disease can also be linked to other health problems. By maintaining your oral health you can reduce the risk and impact of many other health concerns such as pre-term pregnancy, diabetes and heart disease to name a few.

We Welcome You to Call Our Mount Gravatt Clinic

You only get one set of teeth. We recommend taking good care of them—and the team at HD Dental Studio would love to help you with that.
