What are functional appliances, and how do they help?

Functional appliances are custom devices designed to correct jaw discrepancies and improve craniofacial harmony, particularly in growing children. They work by guiding jaw growth and can address issues such as an underdeveloped lower jaw.

What is the retention phase, and why is it important?

The retention phase follows the completion of active orthodontic treatment and is essential to maintain your new smile. Retainers prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original positions and wearing them as instructed ensures long-term success.

Orthodontics Mt Gravatt, QLD

Q: What is the right age for orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment can be beneficial at any age, but early intervention is key for children. It's best to have an orthodontic assessment around the age of 7 to detect and address potential issues early.

Q: What types of braces do you offer?

At HD Dental Studio, we offer traditional metal braces, ceramic (clear) braces, lingual braces (hidden behind teeth), and clear aligners such as Invisalign® and other trusted brands like Reveal and Smile Academy.

Q: Are clear aligners as effective as traditional braces?

Yes, clear aligners like Invisalign® and other brands can be just as effective as traditional braces for many orthodontic cases. They are virtually invisible and offer the benefit of being removable, making it easier to eat, brush, and floss.

Orthodontics and Braces in Mount Gravatt

Your orthodontics solutions for a better and straighter smile.

Early Intervention

By spotting the signs early, our team can help to address early challenges in your child’s dental growth and reduce the likelihood of needing complicated treatment later. Our early intervention orthodontic services in Mt Gravatt include:

Orthodontic Assessments: Regular check-ups to monitor jaw, teeth, and facial development and to spot any potential problems early.
Space Maintainers: These devices keep space open when baby teeth are lost prematurely, preventing crowding or misalignment when adult teeth develop.
Habit Correction: We can help correct habits like thumb sucking or prolonged dummy use, which can cause harmful jaw growth patterns if left unaddressed.

Functional Appliances

If you’re looking for an orthodontist in Mt Gravatt, our team sometimes recommends functional appliances – special, custom-made devices – that help guide the growth and alignment of your jaws and facial bones, especially for young people who are still growing.

They gently encourage your jaw to develop in the right position, fixing any jaw alignment issues and sometimes even helping to stop habits like thumb sucking that can affect how your mouth forms.

These appliances can be simple removable plates that you wear for a certain amount of time each day – or more complex systems designed to nudge your jaw into place over time gently. They work with your natural growth to create a better, healthier bite.

Fixed Braces

Traditional fixed braces are a dependable way to straighten your teeth, and modern ones are more comfortable and discreet than ever. You can choose from:

Metal Braces: Strong stainless steel brackets and wires that gently move your teeth into place over time.
Ceramic Braces: Clear or tooth-coloured brackets for a more subtle look.
Lingual Braces: These are hidden behind your teeth, so no one sees them, but they work just as well.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a subtle way to straighten your teeth. These removable, nearly invisible trays gently shift your teeth into place without the look of traditional braces.

They’re custom-made just for your teeth, so they fit comfortably, and unlike traditional braces, you can take them out when you eat or clean your teeth. That means there are no restrictions on the food you can enjoy or how you keep your smile fresh.

Dr. Daniel Hu, principal dentist at HD Dental Studio, is a certified Invisalign® provider and trained with other trusted brands like Reveal and Smile Academy. He can help you choose the best orthodontic treatment tailored to your unique smile and needs.

Retention

As a top clinic for orthodontics in Mt Gravatt, any treatment plan wouldn’t be complete without mention of retainers. After your active orthodontic treatment is complete, the retention phase begins. Retainers are custom-made, and we provide clear instructions on wearing schedules. Consistently wearing your retainers helps protect your investment and preserves your smile for life.

From the first moment we walked in, the receptionist, Jaismeen, provided an outstanding level of service, welcoming us with genuine warmth and a highly professional, personal touch.

The clinic itself is modern and impeccably organised, which immediately put me at ease. I have been treated by both Dr. Jordan and Dr. Jeremy, and both clinicians were excellent— thorough, attentive, and highly professional throughout. They took their time to explain procedures clearly and ensured that all my concerns were addressed. For anyone seeking exceptional dental care, I highly recommend this dental studio!
