What is CEREC?
CEREC technology is a groundbreaking development in dental care, allowing for the creation of high quality ceramic dental restorations using 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). This means that procedures that once required multiple visits to the dentist can now be completed in a single appointment.
The process is impressively streamlined. It begins with a digital impression of the patient’s mouth using a 3D scanner, which is far more comfortable than the traditional method of creating a dental impression. The digital image is then used to design the restoration on a computer screen in real-time. Once the design is finalised, the information is sent to the CEREC milling machine, which shapes the restoration out of a choice material block. The result is a perfectly fitted, durable, and aesthetically pleasing restoration that is bonded to the patient’s tooth on the same day.
